Hey hey everyone!
I've decided to participate in ArtFight this year! This will be my first ever time participating.

I'm still working on getting all my characters up to date for next month, but in the meantime, here is my profile! artfight.net/~Chupa-Cabra

Please leave a link to your profile if you're participating and I'll probably end up attacking you! <3

My first term as a Fine Arts major is over, and boy, it's been a rollercoaster.

Last week I handed in my final assessments and had my drawing exams. I'm still waiting on some of my results, but from what I've received so far, I'm really happy with my overall marks all things considered.

I've learned a lot more than I thought I would in just 10 weeks of classes; drawing class has helped me produce a larger body of work in 10 weeks than I usually would in 6 months, ranging through various mediums and subjects I would not normally have access to or choose to draw on my own time. My limits were pushed, my comfort zone was left in the dust, and I feel like I'm a much stronger artist for it.

That's not to say that every class has influenced me in this way. Our studio classes often felt pointless and padded out, and I was having a hard time in said class because very few people seem to actually like me in that specific class. Many students have a very cynical attitude towards the studio classes, as they focus on more contemporary, experimental methods of creating art, and a lot of students still don't see that as "true art" that is worth their time. However, I was lucky to have a teacher who chose to have one-on-one consultations with each of the students for our final assessments, and I was told that my tutor was impressed by how far I had pushed myself in terms of artmaking and ideas. I have five more of these classes to get through before I graduate, so I'm hoping I can continue to use them as a space where I can experiment with more radical and unorthodox methods.

Anyway, I just wanted to post an update on art school and how it's impacted me so far. I'm on break for now, and then when June rolls around I'll be back to studying hard.

Important News!

2 min read

Hey everyone! I have some important news to share.

Some of you close to me may know this already, but last Friday I officially left my retail job to dedicate my time to university and creating art. This is something I've been considering for a long time, and a combination of stress, mental health issues, and a desire to put my best foot forward at university led me to take action.

I'm telling you this because it will affect Chupacabra Creations in a couple of ways. Most obviously, this will become my main source of income, and as always I truly appreciate everyone who has commissioned me! It helps a lot more than you might realise, and I love creating art for people

It also means that Chupacabra as a whole will be more active - I'm currently drafting plans for future posts, and I want to try and provide content for you all at least once every two days, if not more. Not all of this will be my own artwork - I also plan on curating content from other artists who inspire me! If anyone here is an artist and interested in collaborating in that sense, please do reach out to me!

Finally, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has followed my progress so far. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I could hardly draw a human face, but the continual support has helped motivate me to improve faster than I could have hoped.

Cheers everyone - expect a lot more content in the future!

Good lord, I just realised how long it's been since I posted a journal on here.

I wanted to update everyone on why the steady stream of art has stopped. As many of you may know, I use an iPad pro with an apple pencil to create my digital pieces. Unfortunately, my screen got broken at work and now I have to get it replaced before I can draw on it again. This is going to take a while and will be very costly, so no guarantees on when I'll be drawing digitally again.

Art-wise, I think it's been a good year. I done quite a lot of commissions, developed my style tremendously, and have slowly but surely been building an online presence for myself. I'm far from where I'd like to be with my art, ideally, but I've come leaps and bounds since the start of 2018.

It's also been a rough year. Financially, every week is a bit of a struggle. My depression has gotten somewhat worse over the past few months, and it's making it hard to stay motivated. I love my job, but it's also tiring.

Anyway, I'll try and post some traditional stuff for you guys while I wait for my screen to be replaced, and hopefully you all enjoy it.

Hope everyone has a fantastic holiday season!

Hey all, just some updates.

I unfortunately missed the cutoff point to get a booth for Oz Comicon, so I won't be there this year. However, I'm still working on digital paintings to make into prints for next year, each with its own speedpaint which I'll be putting up on youtube at some point. I'm bummed out, but we can hope for next year!!
Sydney has been strange and exciting so far. I've already managed to score a job at Australian Geographic, and I start work there tomorrow. Other than that I've been making art and spending time at the beach - we saved a beached pufferfish we found yesterday! It's amazing what washes up on the beach after a storm.
We've possibly even found our own place to move into (we're staying at my sister's atm) which is as close to the beach as you can get, so that's pretty cool. Just waiting for an inspection time.
Honestly there have been a lot of difficulties with my partner and I recently - he won't actively look for a job or engage in activities other than playing video games. It's gonna be a rough patch for a while.

I hope all of you are well and I'll continue to float around here from time to time!
